Dirty Dozen versus Clean 15: Knowing When to Choose Organic

If you eat a lot of fruits and vegetables, like I do, you want to make sure you’re eating as organic as possible. Organic farming uses natural fertilizers and pesticides versus chemical ones. Here are some of the benefits of eating organic:
  • Greater antioxidant and nutrient value
  • Reduced pesticide and antibiotic exposure
  • Avoidance of genetically modified foods

In general, if you eat more organic foods, you will be exposed to less chemicals and more nutrients. For me it is hard to eat 100% organic because my grocery stores only have a limited organic section, but I try and choose organic options over conventional whenever possible.

Below is a guide to inform you which types of produce are typically the highest in pesticides, which you should try and buy organic, and those that are the lowest.
